BIO

Catalina is a multidisciplinary Visual Artist, educator, and independent curator, working in the intersections of geographic identities, collective memories, and hybrid systems of collaboration and participation through existing technologies. 

After earning a BFA and a degree in Visual Arts Education, she developed her career in Santiago, showing her work in solo and group exhibitions, teaching Visual Arts and Film, and creating and directing art spaces such as Oficina Barroca Gallery, and CANCHA Santiago Residency Program. She participated in art residencies, at Youkobo Art Space, Tokyo, Japan 2012; Taller 7, Medellin, Colombia, 2013; and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, US, 2015. Following these experiences, in 2016 she moved to the US to pursue an MFA at Rutgers University from where she graduated in 2018. After that, she was a member at NEW INC, The New Museum Incubator Program NY, a resident at NARS Foundation NY, a fellow at The Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program, NY, Collider Art Residency, Contemporary Calgary, CA, and Foundation for Contemporary Arts, NY. She participated in solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad, being the most recents “Rerouting” at Contemporary Calgary, CA and “Temporary solutions that stay forever “ at The Clemente, NY, USA.

Located in a historic house in downtown Santiago, CANCHA_Santiago was an experimental space that motivated the development of multidisciplinary research projects related to the city, its history, and most current issues. It hosted 26 artists in residence, 8 group exhibitions and 6 public lectures.

2012-2016           Co-founder and co-director Oficina Barroca Gallery, Santiago, Chile.

Its exhibition projects use as basic strategy the occupation of pre-existent spaces to favor the art production of contemporary Chilean artists.

It featured the work of 21 artists, had 17 exhibitions on its gallery space and 3 exhibitions in Art Fairs in Chile and Argentina.
